One of the first questions to come mind to a potential visitor of Santo Domingo is where to stay. Since many come to this website to get opinions or recommendations, why not give them a concise and easy to understand thread where they can easily see which is the preferred hotels of DR1.com members.

Each section of Santo Domingo will be covered, starting with the malecon.

Which hotel of the one's lining the malecon do you believe to be the best?

The best in room size, cleanliness, service, etc.

Disclaimer: This and all polls only reflect the opinions of DR1 members who choose to participate.

Other than the newest of hotels haven't these opinions been expressed already? It requires a search of DR1's archives. No? John

I don't know how to vote. One has best rooms, another best value, another best casino, another best restaurant. Then there is a tie for best bar.

Difficult!

Some have better things than the other but if I HAVE to make a choice, I would go with the Hilton.

I have stayed at all of them but after my first stay at the Hilton, I have not gone back to the others. But, that's just me.

Don't think that just because Paris is a whor, er, no good(lol), that this hotel is no good. This is a nice place. The times that I have stayed there, they have treated me very well and made me feel very comfortable.

I have heard a lot of good things about The new Santo Domingo Hilton lately.
If one has a double room, may one bring guests discreetly to their habitacion?

Why not vote on the hotel you would chose to stay in?

A person will choose to stay in a hotel that is the best for them.

The combination of price, service, room size, etc is what makes a person decide which hotel they will like to stay in.

Thus, of the hotels lining the malecon, the one you believe to be the best will also, by default, be the one you will most likely patronize if you were limiting to the malecon as a location to stay.

That statement is way off the mark. When traveling and I have a choice of an Embassy Suite or a Hyatt, I choose the Embassy Suite. But, I certainly know the Hyatt is the better of the two hotels. I just don't need the best for an additional $150/night.
That is why, without qualifying your answers, this was a senseless question.

Under such assumption, the Embassy Suites was the best choice for you, thus the best hotel in your opinion.

If it was good enough for you make the decision to stay there, then where is the problem?

The Hyatt may be more upscale or of better quality, but it was not good enough for you to choose the Hyatt over the Embassy suites - whether the pricing at the Hyatt was not to your liking or its location or whatever, that is enough to make you choose the Embassy over the Hyatt, thus Hyatt is not the best of the two FOR YOU. The Embassy suites suited your needs/desires much better (this includes pricing) than the Hyatt, thus Embassy Suites is the best hotel of the two for you.

Otherwise, you would have chosen the Hyatt, no?

NO, if you're paying my bill then I consider the Hyatt a much better hotel. Your question probably should have been "Which hotel on the Malecon do you recommend". That allows the person tho answer using whatever criteria he choses, not simply which is "best".

You are correct.

The only thing is that most of the people who come to this website asking for recommendations on lodgings always ask which is the best hotel of such and such place.

The word best means different things to different people.

They will choose their answers based on their own criteria of what is best, which should reflect the place they will most likely stay in if they chose the malecon area for their lodging options.

Here are several definitions of the word "best" according to dictionary.com. These are things people consider when choosing the best hotel for their needs/desires while visting a place:

-Having the qualities that are desirable or distinguishing in a particular thing

-Serving the desired purpose or end; suitable

-In excellent condition

-Most satisfactory, suitable, or useful;
