During the last 6 years I have made numerous trips to the DR as a tourist. In the past I always had to fill out a tourist ticket (cost $10) and turn it in to the agent as I left the airport. However the last time (March of this year) the only requirement was to purchase a colorful tourist card with no identifying numbers or anything. I would then hand carry this card to another immigration agent posted at the door who told me that I could not keep this card and that I had to turn it over to him. Is this really the way it's done at the airport these days?

I just returned from 2 seperate trips to the DR in the last 6 weeks ..Thats how it is done now..They all have a bar code on them due to the high volume of people losing them.So after you hand the card over as you exit immigration somebody scans each one and when you go to leave the info is already on the computer when they swipe your passport as to your entry date..So if you stay more than 15 days the charge you extra..
