Hi, I am a single 36 year old US male vacationing to DR alone. I need some advice on what area to go to for what I am looking for.
The number one prirority is a beatifull beach. I need a clear, clean, white sand beach.prefer some waves. What area has the best beach.Looking on the internet it appears to be Punta Cana area?Is this right? Also, since I am single I would like to have a nightlife (women). No not the "paid ladies" just regular women. I am a clean cut, nice body,(long distance runner) 6 foot tall. Is it hard to meet a lady in DR? Not looking for sex but a freind to go out to eat/drink and play at beach while I am down there for the week. You think this is possilble. I speak some spanish but just basics.
So what area has the best beach and nightlife

The beaches in Punta Cana are very pretty, but it all ends there.
You are miles away from anything & everything.
Notrh coast is the way to go.
Punta Cana is for newly-weds & nearly-deads.

ok, I see what you mean. I just dont like the way the beaches look in Las Terrenas and Cabarete. I dont like the darker color sand on the beach which make the water appear less clear/ and or translucent. I was thinking of something in the middle like Boca chica/ San Domingo/ La Romana area. They all seam to have the whiter sand beaches/clear water and some nightlife. Whats your thoughts on this area?

I never really understood the "white sand obsession" myself, but if that's what turns you on and you are willing to sacrifice all to have it, then go to Punta Cana.
Otherwise, North Coast.

Finding a good girl in the DR at a night spot is like knowing the winning lottery numbers. Expect all of the women out at night to be looking for money not a friend. There hungry and poor which is more important than looking for some nice guy to hang out with. These good girls you speak of wont be out at night as their families keep them well guarded until they are married to a respectible dominican. Anyhow happy hunting...

Wowwwww so that means that my mom, aunts and female cousins are all hungry and poor and looking for money when they go to Ambis or any other night spot?

Dude - watch what you say and don't generalize. What ever happened to good old folk that go out to have a "good time"???

My favorite beach is sosua beach. Sosua beach is closer to my city and it has white sand beach, waves and excellent snorkling. I simply don't care too much for sosua town, full of hookers.
Now I suggest you stay in sosua at first. Seek out a regular hotel (not All-inclusive resort). This way your female companions can come inside and spend quality time with you in your room studying bible (joking).
Go visit rocky's or eddy's sports bar and get free internet if you have your wireless equipped laptop with you. Rocky also has his own Pcs.
The women in sosua are almost all hookers so the trick to meet fancy girls is to head over to cabarete (15 mins away by car) on the weekends. there you will meet quality santiago girls who go there for the beach only and sometimes to party and dance in the beach bars. You should be able to tell who is who. The hookers will be the ones looking at you with a smile and dressed like a hooker. The tourist looking girls who speak perfect spanish are actually girls from santiago, mao, la vega etc. They are different from regular tourists because they dress up to perfection, prettier and dance like latinas. They are also friendly if you don't act or dress like forrest gump. So look around and see how the decent dominicans are dressed and dress like them. Please don't be stupid and show up in swimming shorts, T shirt and slippers to a disco.

Thanks AZB,
Thats the information I was looking for. An inside type scoop of the people and an area that match my objectives as close as possible. Also I will be going for a week on July 28, 2006. I dont want to make reservations at any hotel or AI. Will I have a hard time getting a room without reservations?I thought that late July was the slow time of the year for tourist.I dont want to make reservations because I do not want to be stuck some place I dont like. Also are the casnios in DR legit? I mean like they are in Las Vegas?I dont want to play a slot/video gaming machine if it is "FIXED".Its hard enought to win with out having more odds against you. I heard stories of people winning 2 to 3 million dollars on a progressive slot machine. The lights all go off and they win.The hotel security and management take them to the back to and tell them it was a malfunction of the machine. They bascally offer the winner 500$ and maybee a free buffet. If you refuse they just tell you to get lost and have the police escort you out of the casnio for causing a disturbance.
Ok, please if you know answer some of my questions above.

You do not need advance reservations at that time of the year, although it would be a good idea to have a short list of places you would like to go to, so that you don't spend hours & a fortune in a taxi, finding what you want.

The Jack Tar Casino in Playa Dorada seems to be the most legit Casino around here.
Do not, and I mean, DO NOT, play Super Keno.
It's nothing but a scam.

Look, listen to the DR1 regulars. Punta Cana is for tourists. The beaches at Las Terranas are absolutely beautiful. Perhaps, not for surfers [for that, go to Costa Rica], but you will not be disappointed.

Mind you, I say this, with some degree of trepidation. I don't want a lot of people on my beach! Opps, did I say that! ;)
