Leonel has jumped ship from PetroCaribe and Hugo Chavez - opting, with Colombia and Central America, to join a new petroleum assistance group led by Mexico as proxy for the United States. http://www.unionradio.com.ve/Noticias/Noticia.aspx?noticiaid=17012

Some may recall a few years back when Hippo had troops in Iraq and suffered an oil cut off from Venezuela related to his harboring of former Venezuelan President-come-PRD-bagman Carlos Andres Perez. Who stepped in with cheap oil to allow Hippo to survive this challenge by a real leftist against a phony Hippo-crit? Mexico, of course!

Is PetroCaribe dead, or will the English-speaking islands still avail themselves of it? What was offered to Leonel and does it relate to the most recent elections when the PLD seemed to have gobs of money to spend? One thing's for sure: It's not geopolitically boring around here anymore thanks to Hugo and oil.

Will Mexico offer the same low-interest, 20 year financing of oil purchases that Chavez offered? Lets hope that Chavez doesn't call the outstanding loans.

Petrocaribe does not supply all the oil DR requires, ..

so is it really as 'either or' as you paint it?
