In Miches, still a sleepy fishermen's village at the Northeastern coast, with a virgin beach for many miles, the first "Resort " is being built. According to a newspaper article in HOY, the Group Punta Cana receintly bought a wide strip of beach property...
The good news right next to it: There is an authentic ecotourism project develloped in its neighborhood, for the "Ecological Corridor" between El Seibo and Miches, where the benefits of a sustaninable tourism are to reach the poor rural population and nature conservation is an important element.

Got news for you. "Ecotourism" has been going on for quite a while in the DR with absolutely no infrastructure investment made. It's called yachts.
They come with their own hotels, stay longer than just a week or so, and they spend all their money here, and it stays here.

Yachts

Were as Yachts might be less ecologically damaging than on beach hotels they still cause damage. Especially with their anchors. The more boats you get the greater destruction of corals, sea sponges etc.. Also what about their sewage management, most dump their waste straight into the sea.
