It's about 20 minutes from Playa Dorada to Sosua. When you say "Altos de Chavon", are you referring to the name of a bar or restaurant?

Downtown Puerto Plata to downtown Sosua, driving easy on a high traffic day, takes 30 minutes.
Late at night, stepping on it, you could pull it off in a hair under 20.

Is Playa Dorada closer to Sosua than downtown Puerto Plata or further away?

It would be my pleasure.
First, you come by here to pick up the Pepto Bismol, then you stop off at the local clinic in Charamicos, for a lobotomy, then you jump onto a motoconcho, and hand him the paper in your hand, that you wrote before the lobotomy, that says, "Llevame a Aguacerros en Puerto Plata, por favor.
Simple, isn't it?

Maybe Urb.Torre Alta? Just a minute or three from Playa Dorada, with only houses and apartments.
