Hi all!!!!!

This is my first post.

Why does Boca Chica get such a bad rap?

I was there last November and stayed at the Hoteur Dominican Bay and had a blast.

I would go to the capitol at night (Cafe Trio, Metropolis, etc) and spend the days at the resort in Boca Chica.

I am planning to revist this November and feel that, since Boca Chica is one of the nearest beaches from the capitol, my best bet is to stay in Boca Chica during the days and cab (i feel i am not ready to drive) it to santo Domingo at night. The AI is great for me because all costs are covered. (I mention this because a few peeps do bash the people who do AI).

I am PR born and raised in The Bronx.

DR is the bomb!!!!!!!

The Right Combination!

You got the right idea. Boca Chica beach in the day and Santo Domingo clubs in the night.

Basically it is the hookers, pimps and drug pusher that make the town unappetizing for most mature people and for the Dominican local high class. That and the fact that 10% of the hookers are HIV+, it is sort of like playing
Russian roulette.
I concure with Helpman in his opinion that BC by day and the good spots in SDQ at night were a good way to go. And there are a lot more places than Trio and Montecristo.....just ask..

Thanks HB.

I do recall last year in my walk to The Hamaca that there were many ladies of the night. I just ignored them. As far as those services are concerned, there are many more in the Santo Domingo area as well.

Can you name a few more spots in the Capitol that will be worth taking a look at?

I remember I also went to some Cave club and Jubille in the Jarajua Hotel.

Thanks helpmann for your opinion as well.

Avenida Venezuela

I like the discos and night life on Avenida Venezuela in Zona Oriental (east of the Rio Ozama river.)

Pickpockets

Nobody mentioned that the best pickpockets from the DR are here..I have traveled the whole south/southwest and never got pickpocketed by anyone except in Boca Chica...All the Pros from the Capitol gather here on Sat-Sun afternoon stalking their prey till evening..Watching and waiting for you to slip up with to many Presidentes/Cuba Libres....

When was the last time you spent time in Boca Chica HB?
I mean at night, on the street, couple of days getting to really see the place.

I would like to see those numbers of the HIV rate.
Do you have an official source?

BC has undergone lots of changes in the past 5 years.
They have cleaned it up a lot, it's not the same place it was 3-5 years ago.

Mikethe1&only,

Welcome to DR1, your ever friendly and helpful message board. The board where you can ask a question about the DR and get a diversity of different answers just as diverse as our island is.

I can't and therefore won't give you any comments on BC but I did notice from your OP that you "cab (i feel i am not ready to drive) it to santo Domingo at night". Is this to mean that you take a taxi to the capitol each evening?

The reason I ask that question of you is because of the expense of a taxi versus the expense associated with public transportation and the large variation between the two. Also, being PR born and Bronx raised I am taking a very large assumption that you do in fact speak some Spanish or are fluent in it.

Rick

PS. How about a trip report in our "Trip Report" forum when you get back home from your trip in November? It would be nice to hear your take as to how everything went, what you did and give us your feel of Boca Chica.

Hi there (all)

To answer to question, yes I will be taking cabs into the capitol.

I will be going to the Capitol at around between 10:00pm and 11:00pm.

I do not think public trasportation runs at that time. If I do get an opportunity to meet someone, I would probably stay at a hotel around the Capitol and then might take public transport in the morning. I did this the last time and it went fine. Also, I will not be going to the capitol every night. I will be there from Sat Nov 11 to Sun Nov 19. I would definetely be going there Sunday night and Wednesday for sure. a few nights I will do Boca Chica at night but mostly the Hamaca hotel for the disco and casino. ( not duarte street).

And I am flent in Spanish.

Also, I am thinking about taking a couple of days to see the North side.

No problem doing a trip report. It would be my pleasure.

Pickpokets are found everywere in the world. NY is no exception. Live in the Bronx and you can take the experience anywhere.

I agree, Boca Chica has changed a great deal in recent years.

I was not exposed to the "old" Boca Chica but I hear it was a lot nastier a few years ago. Anyway, the "new" Boca Chica does not have much to offer IMO. The beach itself is ok but apparently the water is very polluted. There are alot of "hawks" following anyone they think is a tourist around which is very annoying. I do not know any good restaurants there and although I have only spent 1 night there (I have been there for the beach during the day several times) I found the nightlife on the boring side. The BC strip itself is short and I just dont see much there. Also, the hookers are pretty nasty and 75% of them are Hatian. IMO, I think Sosua has much more to offer as a vacation spot. It has a much better beach, better restaraunts and a better nightlife. Just my humble opinion.

Ditto,

One of the good things about BC is the short distance from the capital, and I wouldn't recommend a first-timer roaming around the Capital, without a guide.

-Helpmann :)

I just returned from a BC/Capital trip. My second trip to BC and my first to the Capital. Where are most of the clubs in the Capital? Are they within walking distance of El Conde or do you have to cab it.

I had a great time in the Capital. It is just so much to do. I didn't "club it" as I planned. I met a chica at the Presidente Festival in BC and she kept most of my time occupied while in the Capital.

BC is BC, either you like it or you hate it. I think 4 nights in BC is plenty then move onto the Capital. Cabbing it back and forth can become quite expensive.

Please do not show blatant ignorance..Logically there is no way to keep accurate statistics..Why don't you tell us the percentage per capita of infections in Santiago?

Please know what you are talking about before posting nonsense..thank you.

The weather is still nice.

Under the sugarcoating nothing has changed the last 15 years, BC's problems don't just go away. Painting your car doesn't fix the engine.
