Dont Miss Bars/Clubs/Sights in Barahona-area?

Just moved to the Capital from the States and want to escape the city for a few days this week. Im thinking of heading into the SW. Ive read the Lonely Planet and Rough Guides to the SW, but wondered if locals have any heads-ups.

Im a single guy, looking to have a few beers, check out the scenery, take a few pictures. Any advice?

In Barahona, the Colmados along the Malacon seem to be the social center at night. There are also a few clubs in the area around the parque central. I'm not a local, but I spent a few days there in June.

If you look at the pictures just posted here by Paul Gerace, you will get some great ideas for scenic locations to visit.

If you have a few days then I assume you will be seeking places to stay also.I recommend the Hotel Garocuya it has a large lobby and a Casino with a snack bar open till 4 am..Also check out Lotus Discotec...Best on weekends..From there head south 45 km. to Paraiso and get a room at the Hotel Paraiso ..While in this area check out San Rafael/Los Platos, and Cabo Rojo...There will be plenty of places to grab a beer...But after you leave Barahona..You will be only see small towns along the coast road...No hotels and big resturants here till you get to Perdanales and even then it is not a tourist type hotel..

I stayed at the Garocuya, and would recommend it as basic accomodation. It is an older hotel, formerly the nicest resort in town, and it is a bit worse for wear. You may want to check out the room carefully before unpacking. The one they gave me at first had a leaky commode, and the showerhead hot water heater wasn't working. They gave me another room, no problem. A single room was RD1000.

Yes I did not think to mention that ...But it is the only hotel on the beach at that price..I have noted that there are some rooms better than others when I stayed there a few years ago...As with any hotel in the DR it is best to look before you pay... A woman named Yaya is who you should see..She is the manager/desk clerk in the day hours...She will see that you are happy with your room...And you can't beat the price..With a small casino roughly 2 roulette tables...4 card tables and about 25-30 slot machines and some video poker machines you can't go wrong...Plus you are within a day trip of everything all the way to the Haitian border...

Discotec in Barahona

Check out LOTUS right near park central..I was in there 2 weeks ago on a Saturday night and it was half full...It's upscale with a newly added Big screen TV and very cool A/C 90 pesos for a Presidente Grande though..But very nice...well worth a visit...

Good service and nice Chicas...Burger stands right outside the front door...It's also safe and very cozy...They scan you for weapons at the door...So if your carrying..leave it in the car..

i am interested

from those pics ,,, the place looks great i did not get to visit my last trip,,, but it first on the list for next time,,, if anyone on here lives there please i would like more information as where to stay and what to see,,, i am very interested if i move there to open some kind of business ( its my nature) any thoughts on that would be great
