Snorkeling Cayo Paraiso and Rio San Juan

On this forum i have read that Cayo Paraiso and Rio San Juan are is the best snorkelspots of The DR.
Is is possible to reach this places on a daytrip from Samana-city. ?
Where exactly can i find the best snorkelspots on Cayo Paraiso and Rio San Juan ?
Is it possible to do the tours yourself and contact local fisherman/boatsman to do the trips to Rio San Juan and Cayo Paraiso ?

Cayo Arena (the correct name for the sand spit) is a tinly little thing to the west of Punta Rucia.
Río San Juan is about 2 hours MOL from Samaná. A long way for a day trip but just doable.
Cayo Arena is more like 6 hours...on a good day.
