In Diario Libre there is a story about a census of foreigners in the DR. The law that would establish this census is being discussed by the chamber of deputies. The proporsal was submitted by Rafael Librado Castillo of the PRD party. If passed it will be the first statistic on foreigners in the DR.

Any feed back from expats on this.

Well, usual questions about HOW this would be done, is it an anti-Haitian measure etc etc. What made me smile was the intention of using the foreign Embassies...............they think the Embassies know which of their nationals live here? I have no problem if the Census is to make sure foreigners have residencia, because they should anyway, but could it be used to introduce enhanced taxation, for example? DR Government is going to be pretty strapped for cash next year.............
