allegro decameron now barcelo decameron

I booked my vacation in nov 99 for travel feb 2000. I booked with the intention of going with a reputable chain---allegro/jack tar. I went to pick up my tickets and noticed that the resort was now run by barcelo. The travel agent was of course down playing it as "NO BIG DEAL, BARCELO IS FAR SUPERIOR". Should I be concerned? Has anyone been to the Barcelo Decameron that can comment? Should I insist on changing my vaction? Has the resort changed for the better? Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. I would tend to agree with your travel agent. With Barcelo moving in, surely they will be making improvements. Note that your hotel was just recently revamped because it suffered damages during Hurricane Georges in 1998, so it should be in better condition than it has ever been. Barcelo is a reputable chain. They operate the nearby Capella Barcel? and also took over the Talanquera which is next door to Decameron. They operate the Barcel? properties in the Bavaro area -- Palace, Golf, Beach, Casino, Garden (about 2,000 rooms), and the Barcel? Gran Lina in Santo Domingo.

I stayed in decameron in December 99 just in the time Barcelo started to direct the resort, and they had made some changes there, but everything was going very well... I have many friends in Juan Dolio, some of them work there, and had told me that these days, the resort is full and everything is ok.... Ask me if you need more info, don't doubt it... I loved Decameron, it's a 3* very charming,..Not luxurious, but the staff was the most friendly i've ever found in Dominican Republic...ANd foof was also the best (and i've stayed in 5*).... Read the review and email me if you want, ok? And Barcel? is a very well named Spanish company.....They are "buying" Juan Dolio...In the next years Juan Dolio will be a Barcelo complex,..lol....
