OK, which do you prefer out of
-Rice and Habichuelas
-Moros
-Rice and Guandules?

For me, guandules wins out everytime, particularly with chicken dishes, or goat. There is much more flavour in guandules, and I am also a bit suspicious at what else people stick in their moros. Unfortunately it is the least available out of the three.

The campaign to put guandules at the heart of Dominican cuisine starts here!

1. Moro (red beans ok; prefer black though that's probably more Cuban)
2. habichuelas
3. guandules con coco

George, having eaten muchissimo platos del dia, I can tell you one thing - their main idea is heavy on the rice, and light on the habichuelas, no matter what color. In the worst cases, it has been rice and bean JUICE (no sign of habichuelas being present).

In my house, the rule is that I want some rice with my HABICHUELAS. And only las negras will do. hehe

For real!

I always wondered what was up with that bean juice! Rice and beans ( or frijoles) are a favored breakfast item of mine, believe it or not, but when in the DR, it was always rice and juice.
