Any decent living accomodations there? Casita or 'apartment'?
Define "decent".
If you mean, that it is noise free, NO.
If you mean that you could find a block house or apartment there, cheaper than El Batey, YES.
Would you need to lock it up like Fort Knox, being the new kid/gringo on the block? YES.

Decent - much like the standard lower-mid / middle class RD home.

Noise? I usually stay in Los Charimicos-but would like it a bit quieter.

Security? hmm never thought of that. I do know some people there and have friends in Villa Bethania as well - so new but some people do know me there.

I really just don't want to live in El Batey-at least not too close to the discos.

90% of El Batey is not near the discos.
If you have friends who live in Villa Bethania, good friends, that is, maybe you should look close to them.
Friends protect friends.
You may be able to find a quiet area in Maranatha, but I don't know of one.
When the local pastor near my girlfriend's house starts his snake charming, I get in my car and leave.
The El Batey discos are no louder.
