I just got off the phone with these guys. The cheapest rooms for February are $90. That is more than what I wanted to spend. Are there any other good hotels in the same area for around $40 or $50 a night?

Thanks

I am not really sure where the palacio is...in the colonial zone would be my guess. So , I stayed at the Napolitano last week, which is just outside the colonial zone on george washington for $55 a night...the room was basic....but had a view of the waterfront....even if a huge tanker was anchored right in the middle of the view.

for a 200 peso cab ride you are in the middle of the colonial zone...

I stayed at the Hodelpa hotel last year...i think it was about $70 per night, and it was a very clean nice hotel.....

Bob, you paid only $55 for the Napoliatno? I was looking at hotels for my Feb trip to the Capital. I was quoted $90/night for the Napolitano.

you know when I called last week, they said the same thing..about $90...I went there without booking( because plans change in life)...figuering they would have a room free....and what happened was i forgot my main wallet at my GFs house and i didnt have my credit card with me, actually I didnt have any credit cards....and only had about 4000 pesos with me ( i already bought my tickets to the game that night) and i wanted to eat and drink at the game and play a little roulette after the game at the casino..and drive home the next day....well i didnt feel comfortable paying for the room out of that 4000 pesos and being able to have an enjoyable trip.....so i told the reception guy i didnt have my CC, and if he could just take the CC numbers down with out the actual card( i could call my gfs mother for the numbers) he said no....so i asked whats the cheapest room...and he said $55 with all the taxes included...sooooooo maybe he let me have it cheap...dont know....I am thinking they have that rate for that room...

I lucked out because i called a buddy who has a brother with a store in Santo Domingo.. he called him and told him I needed some cash,.. I went to his store on Ave feb 27 and picked up 6000 pesos....

as it was we won 2000 pesos at the casino ha ha ha ha...but I never would have gone without the insurance cash.

PS that CASINO at the Napolitan, doesnt even have a roulette table!! we went down the road to play

The Mercure has a supossedly "Hot Deal" going on for $44 a night standard room with restrictions. Is this place like the Marriott or just OK? Is this a good deal? Are they guest friendly? Thanks for all the help.

Hotel Palacio Reviews?

Has anyone stayed at the Hotel Palacio? If so, please post your reviews. Things like guest policies, internet access, cleanliness, back up power generators...

I am also curious about Caribe Colonial and the Hotel Ataranza.

Thank you.

Never been there but....

Have you considered the Hotel Mecure? or how about the Maison Gautreaux?

Both of these are really nice and in the middle of the CZ - You can get a room at the Mecure for about $45 USD per day and the Maision Gautreaux is about $35 per day. Very nice! - feel free to PM for any PRIVATE Questions.

Palacio hands down!

Extra clean and a beautiful theme and decor.
Palacio Jr. suite best room in SD.
PC with internet in the room, huge beatiful desk for business, huge bathroom with jacuzzi tub, and a bar everything spaced out lots of room. It is Chica freindly and the chicas love the hotel. 4 stars a bit pricey but well worth it.

Ataranza, nice and located on a better street but not as elegant as Palacio.

Never been to C.Colonial

Sorry I can't paste it but here we go.

Boutique Hotel Palacio or call and ask about the jr suite 809 682-4730

Hey DAKRA ya gotta try it once! Just kick back and watch the reactions from your guest ( chicas ) when they visit. You won't want to stay anywhere else buy it is pricey. There is some important historical fact about the property but of course I forgot what it was.

Oh yeah don't be fooled by the outside, the inside is immaculate!!!!!

Definetly an upscale place.

Pm for a little side track info.

Palacio and Condo Parque

I also stayed at the Palacio for 3 nights. I stayed in the JR suite and it it was excellent. I think it cost me about $118 US per night. The 2 rooms were very nice and large and the furniture was very comfortable. My room was very clean and very quiet with a small balcony that faced a quiet street. The suites come with a computer and DSL, work desk, minibar, jacuzzi and bathrobes. There was a library available for common use. The service was excellent. I had a problem with hot water in the jacuzzi and within minutes the manager and a maintainence man were at my door and had it fixed quickly. Breakfast buffet was $8 US. I don't know about chica friendly as I was with my novia and she was treated with respect. It is the former home of an Ex- President. It was pricey but I thought it was well worth it for such an elegant place. I usually stay at the Conde-Parque and though a step down from the Palacio it is very good for $35 US per night including tax. It has a restaurant and bar on the ground floor and a balcony on the roof with a distant view of the sea. The Condo-Parque is not chica friendly but it does have WIFI in the lobby. I hope this info helps.

It does look like a nice hotel, right smack in the middle of where we want to be. The online reservation gives you 3 different rates to choose from; regular, better and promotion. I'm not sure why anyone would choose any rate other than promotion. There's a six dollar per night difference. It should work out nicely.

Thanks again.

CJnNJ- If you choose the Promotional Rate you pay 100% up front and if you can't make it on the dates of your resevation you lose 100% of your money. No changes. No refunds. I think the Mercure has a similar deal. If you are in the DR, sure of your plans and not at the mercy of the airlines eratic service, it is the best deal. Enjoy. It really is a nice place.

Aha! The devil in the details. Thanks for info. We should be fine with our travel plans, but it's good to know what's what should things need to change.

The Discovery Hotel is new and right off the Conde. It has all the amenities of the Palacio and is priced cheaper. That's where I stay now and I have stayed at the Palacio several times.Do a search on this board as it has been mentioned a few times.
