Take a cab from the airport to the Metro or Caribe Tours station. The cab would be about 500 pesos. The bus ride from the Capital to Santiago is about 2 hours or a little less depending on the driver. It will cost you 200 pesos. And then just take a cab to your destination in Santiago. Total - 1,000 pesos.

Contact Raphael Santo, (809) 399-9219, he is in SD on a daily basis and travels to Santiago quit often. Tell him that Charlie refered you.

Yes I agree minimum would be about $1,000 pesos. If you call a radio cab company to take you to the airport it is 800-900 pesos. A taxi from the airport itself is 1,000 pesos plus.

Sorry, I was quoting someone's figure for the taxi ride into Santo Domingo.
Judging for fares for Santiago's airport-> city fares, I'd say that RD$1,000 was a fair fare.....

To save money from SDQ to the city, get a cab from departures area. It would definately save you more than 300 pesos ! From there you can negotiate for $700 or 800 - that's all !

They quote $500 but you can definately get them for $400. I never have tried for $300, only when it's going to the airport !

Yeah, I originally was going for 400 pesos. However, I think they could not tell if I was Dominican. So, they pulled out some sort of price sheet, pointed to a 300 peso number, said that this was the price, and said that they could not go any lower. So I took them up on it and gave a 50 RD tip. Dumb luck I guess, but I think I found out what the lowest acceptable price is.
