Greetings to all the members of this forum. I was reading this post and felt compelled to add my two cents, as I am familiar with the stuckmanns. I stayed in Villa Bridget for two weeks August of last year. Contrary to the unfortunate experience of the individual who precipitated this thread, I have nothing but good things to say about my stay. I found both Eckhard a Florence who I happen to know for a fact do own all four houses on that property to be extremely cordial and helpful.
On the second day of my stay there I had an incident where I lost my credit card or perhaps it was stolen still to this day I don't know either way, they were extremely helpful in understanding what my situation. They let me their cell phones so that I could make calls to the US, they offered me food as I was left penniless during this ordeal. Lucky for me I was able to straighten the whole thing out putting a stop to my credit card and retrieving all of the money at potentially lost. This only took a day or two but the stress of the ordeal was certainly lessened by the solicitous and caring nature of the stuckmann's.
As for them requiring incoming guests to surrender their passports I even found a little excessive when I first arrived. But during my two week stay I realize that sometimes you have to see things from the other person's point of view. They have no idea what kind of person they're taking in for the duration of greed. During my two week stay in Sosua I witnessed how ugly some people can get when they're on vacation; both American and European. The bottom line is that for the most part Sosua is one big hangout for singles looking to get drunk and laid. Not to take away from the beautiful sites diving and general tourist excursions you can also engage in. So sometimes people step over the line, and decide to turn a swimming pool into a big orgy or just get generally become obtrusive and unruly. Under these circumstances you can blame someone for trying to take whatever precautions they need to feel safe and to secure compensation in case of such events.
On a side note the grounds are meticulously kept, security is tight, is a private beach in walking distance, the security personnel cool, and the Stuckmanns from my experience completely stay at of your business if you abide by the tenant agreement he required to sign upon paying for your stay. I would definitely recommend a stay there.
The only downside to staying at Villa Bridgett is for those who are uninterested in renting a car for the length of the stay, as it is a little off the beaten path and aways from the center of town in El Batey. I had no problems getting someone to take me into town via motorbike.
I hope this is been helpful and offer my sincerest regrets that the guy who started this thread had that situation happened to him. My advice to him drop whatever hard feelings you have and straighten it out with them I'm sure of cooler heads prevail something can be worked out.
Good luck to all!
