Trying to decide which resort to stay in, have read many reviews many not soo pleasant. Really not that worried about how hard my bed is or how quiet our room is. Really looking forward to having a great time n partying. They both are rated well for young adults we're leaning towards barcelo since it is bigger and has more options. What do you think will better fit 5 guys age range from 22-25? (All dominican mind you) Yes we have been all over the country on vacation since our parents own homes there, but would like to try a all inclusive. Just rather not bother with taking things to ppl, visiting family members i really dont know..etc..etc..it gets old...Any other all inclusives that will better tend towards our age range? Going in the beginning of September/Labor Day. Have looked @ places like Majestic but rather save the $$

Thanks in advance

If you are looking for night partying, you're probably same off in Barcelo as in RIU. Barcelo's disco is really good, high-rated, and Riu Pacha is rated well too. In Barcelo, you don't pay the drinks at the disco, I don't know about Riu since it's a public disco. As far as "ambience" goes, they are about the same.
You can also try Flamenco's Mango and Areito next to the old Paradissus. They are all public discos with LOTS of people, several dance floors, and good music. Entry price is usually the same, 5 USD, and includes a voucher for the drink.

For daytime activities, both hotels are rated good, but Barcelo's hotels are luttle bit closer to each other than Riu's. As far as the size of hotels in number of rooms goes, they are about the same, Barcelo has Palace, Beach, Caribe, Casino and Golf hotels. Riu has Taino, Bambu, Naiboa, Palaca Macao and Palace Punta Cana.

Like you say the disco "Pacha" is public and yes you have to pay for your drinks there even if you are a paying guest of the hotel complex. Although Riu hotels are great, the ones in punta cana seem to usually attract an older crowd of mostly europeans. But this can depend on which countries they have been targeting with marketing. You can usually find some Americans , Canadians and Brits. in the mix. Hope this helps. As one of their older aged clients I am basing this on personal knowledge.

I stayed at the RIU Macao and the new Palace Punta Cana in the past year. The Macao was a much older crowd-wouldn't go back because of this. The Palace was a mix-Would go back just because of the 5+ star quality. If I was staying at a RIU again though, I think I would probably pick the Bambu this time. I heard from many people that the Taino and Naiboa were the 'party' hotels with the younger crowd (they are also much less $) but I checked both out when there and they really didn't 'appeal' to me. I like the luxurious rooms etc....
Pacha is okay. It's really hit and miss. Some nights it was packed, others it was dead!!! Music was okay. Drinks are not free for RIU guests although they are dirt cheap-and strong. Pacha is extremely small and needs a bit of a facelift. Make sure to check out Mangu in town.. That is the disco that everyone from every other resort goes to. Hope this helps.
