Interested as to why you ask the question?

I rate a "4" and have been 5 times. Think the all in buffet should be brought back as the price for food since this ended seemed a little high to me!

I think we need clarification here. Are you talking the Marine Park, the Casino, The Night Tour & Show. OR are you asking how it rates as an overall tourist attraction?

I would vote differently on each part.

If your comparing it to other tourist attractions in the DR, then it's years ahead. If your comparing it to major tourist attractions around the planet, then it holds it's own with some of the best.

I Visited The Casino Just Before "Opening Day"

It was like stepping into another World!
Something out of "Disney Land"!
VERY Impressive!
The Marina area was filled with International "Mega" Yachts!
Looked like a "Mina" Montecarlo!
The place is run like a cruise ship.
I have never seen anything like it in the DR!
I would place it at the top of any "MUST SEE" list in the Carribean, much less the DR
To give it "ONLY" a "5" would be an injustice!

I agree with CC

I have been 2 times now and I have lost track of how many people I have recommended to go. Ocean World will be one of the first places I go when we come back shortly. When we move to the DR this year, all of my friends and family who will be coming down, all are excited to be visiting Ocean World as well, ( I think they are more eager to see Ocean World than me lol). Anyway on a scale of 1 - 100 it is 110 to say the least. :classic: and far better than any Disney World, land etc. Keep up the great work .:cheeky:

a lot of tourists dont go because of the price(I usually ask if they have been)...they say they see the same in say America at a cheaper price.$50 odd dollars is quite expensive ..if it was $40.00 I think more people would go more often

Over the years of living here I have become quite 'Dominicanised' on prices & to be totally honest I considered the cost of entry to be high .............. BUT I HAD NOT VISITED IT THEN!!

My Mother, sister & nieces arrived in October & wanted to visit Ocean World Dolphinarium & to swim with the dolphins as an experience. I offered to take them in & was totally taken aback by the whole set up!! Clean & tidy .... certainly. Friendly & efficient staff ....... ABSOLUTELY. Well run shows, care of animals, birds & fish ....... definitely. There was shade when/where you needed shade, sun when you wanted to swim (& sunbathe), reasonably priced buffet & soft drinks ............... The whole area was (as CC described) run like a well captained ship - everyone having something to do & getting on with it without a moments hesitation & absolutely NO moaning!! The ONLY drawback of the whole day was getting the photographs organised at the end of the day - 20 minutes turned out to be 40 & THAT was with a little bit of 'friendly persuasion' by yours truly mentioning a certain person's name at Ocean World!! (Thanks Stefan!!).

Whereas before I wouldn't have put it high on the 'To Do' list when in Puerto Plata, I have revised this to now being 'a very good day out & well worth the money' excursion. Remember, I am a resident in the Puerto Plata area & these things don't excite me as much as they might visitors to the island!! Get there for 10.30(ish) & have a restful day looking at ALL the exhibits/shows etc. Don't try to rush Ocean World, it is far too multiple in it's attractions to do in 4 hours!! ~ Grahame.

My wife and visited the Casino and the restaruant. The Casino was average, the service was average, beer was expensive. Thought if you played the drinks were included. The food was very expensive and very below average. I did enjoy looking at the boats in the harbor and the breeze. I would like to go again, thinking our first visit was just a one of, but my wife in not interested.

My very first post although I have bben reading the forums for some time.

Mr Grumpy & I visited Ocean World in May 2004 and were really disappointed after having been to Discovery Cove in Florida.

From what I have read and by looking at the Ocean World website, the place seems to have been improved since we last visited. Can anyone confirm this please?

If it has improved, I would like to visit again when we are there in January, but I need to convince Mr Grumpy.

Mr Grumpys Better Half, what didn't you like about it in 2004? Then some of us that have visited recently can tell you if things have changed etc.

Alright... I'm going to throw in my 2 cents about Ocean World after my first trip to the DR... then I will post my other 2 cents after I do the rest during my 2nd DR trip (dinner, Bravissimo show, OW shows during the day etc.) which will be sometime between Nov. 29th and Dec. 13th!!!

Ever since I was a little girl I wanted to go swimming with the dolphins, so when I went to the DR I figured that no matter what the cost I would do it... so I did it... the cost it could have been cheaper... I'm a single mom that saved up all year to go on that trip however, it was worth every penny and i'm obviously going back for more! !!!!

The staff is incredibly friendly and ALWAYS there to help you... the show that we managed to see was amazing (the dolphin show) ... however, the day was not long enough to do everything! Everything is soooooooooooo well organized... and if you ever don't know what you're supposed to be doing, there is always someone to help you.

Everything was incredibly clean, which is a nice change from the parks here in Canada (eg. Marineland - thats the closest thing i've been too LOL!).

My friend did the Sea Lion encounter, and she absolutely loved it!!!!

So ... overall the experience was amazing... but I guess with everything its to each his own... however, I am curious what exactly was wrong with OW in 2004 :)

I will let you know how the restaurant and everything else is when I go down for my birthday... I do believe I'm having my birthday dinner there and seeing the Bravissimo (sp?) show :)

Sorry for not replying sooner.

In 2004, we thought that the Dolphin enclosure was really small and cramped (don't forget, that was compared to Discovery Cove) and also the area for the Sea Lions ( I don't mean for the show but where they were actually kept).

I think somebody said at that time that OW was still being developed. I certainly don't remember a casino or evening entertainment.

Also, a guide met you as you walked in and went everywhere with you to the extent of saying "I will give you 5 minutes to swim in the pool to look at the tigers". He never gave you the chance to just wander and look and enjoy the day.

I hate to sound as if I am criticising but it was expensive to be so disappointed. If it has been developed and has a more relaxing atmosphere, I would love to go again and Mr G says he will pay. :surprised

Mr. Grumpy's Better Half.... My boyfriend works there, and I'm a huge dolphin and sea animal lover, so I know that if I had seen anything or heard anything about mistreatment of animals or seen anything else that didn't seem right, I definitely would not support Ocean World.

When we were there we didn't have a lot of time because I did the dolphin swim and my friend did the sea lion encounter ... but we did get to walk around on our own, and there was always staff to help us, or to answer questions ... and the staff is always letting you know when the shows start, and showing you where to go (which is always good esp. considering my memory for stuff - but they also leave you alone if you are not interested)

The map of the park is on their website... so you can see the park layout now and what they have :)

I believe Ocean World has one the largest dolphin enclosures in the world.

To Silver1126 and Robert.

Thanks for your replies. We have had a look at the website and we both agree that the place was not finished in May 2004 ( I see it only opened late April 2004). We are going to visit it again in January so that we do not have an outdated opinion of it. Hopefully we can go independently and not have to take a trip with a tour operator.

BTW I haven't voted in the poll so I wasn't the 2.94%.
