Our first tournament in April was a great success, with 55 participants which was a mix of expatriates, Dominicans, and even some tourists. A girl friend of mine from The Bahamas, who had never played in a tournament or for real money before (but had some internet experience) got 14th place. I got 3rd place myself even though I just started playing TX Holdem No Limit games last November. So anybody can win but most importantly its great fun.

We have a very experienced professional tournament director who is involved with the World Series of Poker who keeps play fair and organized (not an easy task!) plus we have a great surveillance team that will catch any cheating or 'team play' as can be found often in Dominican poker rooms. We have refused play to known cheaters will continue to do so. Our poker table at the casino has a good reputation of running a fair and clean game, even though some people have accused me of rigging the shuffle machine after I beat them (LOL).

The last tournament lasted over two days and there were some complaints about having to find and pay for hotel rooms so we decided to make this a one day event. Registration will start at 11 am and play starts at noon. It will be capped at 100 players, first come first serve. My guess is that the final table will start some time in the mid to late evening and it migh not finish until midnight or 2 am, but who knows, its tournament play and anything can happen.

I am trying to get a sponsoring jewellery company to make a bracelet for the winner of this tournament. So besides 40% of the entry fees (RD 380,000 minimum), the winner will receive an engraved bracelet. The other 60% of the entry fees will be divided among the other 9 top finishers including 20% for 2nd place and 10% for 3rd place.

Besides tickets to the fabulous Bravissimo show at Ocean World Casino and admissions to the Ocean World Adventure Park, all participants will receive gifts from sponsors for all participants, bottles of rum, T-shirts, hats, beer coolies, bottle openers, etc.

If you have any questions, you can put them here in the forum or direct them, including advanced registration to grobinson@ocean-world.info

You can get a view of the casino at Caribbean Gaming Destination, Ocean World Casino - Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic

Email I received from Ocean World.

For those of you who attended our first Ocean World RD$1,000,000 Tournament, I think you?ll agree it was a huge success and we?d like to thank you all for your participation. We congratulate 1st Place Arthur Manfredi RD$380,000, 2nd place Pierre Lacoste RD$190,000, and 3rd place Stefan Meister RD$95,000.

I take this opportunity to inform you that we have our 2nd RD$1,000,000 Poker Tournament coming up on August 11th, 2007, which will be a one day event starting at 12pm (registration by 11am) with a guaranteed minimum purse of RD$1,000,000. As our first event had a good turnout of 55 players, we are expecting to have nearer 100 players for this second tournament, so I?d advise booking early to reserve your seat.

Sharpen your skills during our popular bi-weekly tournaments on Tuesdays and Saturdays (RD$3,000 Buy-in), the starting time has been changed to 7pm and we now have a reduction in the rake to only 3.2 % (average).

If you have any questions concerning our upcoming poker tournaments, please feel free to contact me or visit our website at: Caribbean Gaming Destination, Ocean World Casino - Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic.

I agree with you. You have a good thing going! I paid my entry for th 11th of August this saturday. One thing, last time it was very slow, mainy because of the antes I think. Dealers not used to it, change etc. Make sure to have the right chip value so the ante structure works smooth. Good luck with the arrangement!

This time we will have a lot more chips plus they will have the values on them. Also the race to trade in low denomination chips will be done during the breaks, not inbetween rounds. This should speed things up. Its not so easy when you have your own dealers working with outside dealers with chips and colors they are not used to. But we are learning.

As we are not ones for driving after dark, would you be able to recommend reasonably priced accommodation either on site or adjacent to the venue please. Can you also advise whether spectators are welcomed?

The two hotels next door are the Hacienda Lifestyle Resort and Spa (809) 970-7777 and the Sun Village Resort and Spa (809) 970 3364. If those are too expensive or booked, there are many small condo-hotels in Costambar, the area next to Cofresi here. A google search or a search in this forum will probably produce a lot of options.

Spectators will be welcome, however, at this stage I don't know how close one can get in the initial rounds as all the tables are together with room for tournament officials only. Once the tournament is down to the final table there will be spectators around it, within a few feet. If you PM your email I can email you some photos from the last tournament.

Hacienda Lifestyle prices are prohibitive online - perhaps different when you get there but even Sun Village is loads of bucks for an overnight stay when not arriving until late or very late and then leaving early in the morning. Can you see if you can do a deal with them for people like us, i.e. a couple just wanting a bed for the night............ he might get knocked out in the first 10 minutes so we would have plenty of time to drive home in daylight even!!

Tourney Structure

So what's the starting chip count and the blind structure for these tournaments?

Won't make this one but hopefully one this year.

Thanks

15,000 in chips, blinds start 50-100 and go up every 25 minutes. 10 minute break after every two rounds. There will be antes in some later rounds.

Thats a very good structure for the better players. I hope to come up from the capital and play if I can free up the day.

I am not sure if you will finish the tourney in one day however with that blind structure and 10 entrants.

Welll you don't know to what amounts we are increasing the blinds later in the tournament, do you? If you wish, I can email you the blind structure plan because blinds go up a lot later in the tournament. The key is not to throw out too many players in the beginning.

Yes, can I see the blind structure? I think the amount of starting chips relative to the starting blinds is great for the better players.

Thanks for the info Conchman. I agree with Larry that is a good number of starting chips and if all the tournaments you host are like this then the better players will be able to "play poker."

But why email the structure to Larry when you can just post it here?

Thanks again.

Because I was posting from home and didn't have it available.

When I get to office tomorrow I will post it

We had 62 entries into tournament (7 more than in our last RD$1M tournament)

1st place Ali Aydin (resides in Santo Domingo - originally from Turkey)

2nd place Oren Wolf (England)

3rd place Max Junker (resides in Costambar - originally from Germany)

I have some photos, will send to Robert to post since I cannot do it myself.
