What are the top 5 best Private High schools in La Romana for a teen Dominican boy 16 years old?

Are there any private schools that teach mostly in English?

What is the cost per year/month in U.S. dollars for these type of schools for a teenage student?

what about the best public high school in La Romana, if any.

Are there any that teach in English

thanks.

- If you want the child to get at least "some" real education, don't even think of a public school.

- No public school in DR teaches in English.

- Very few private schools in DR teach in English, and if they do, they are quite expensive (tuition comparable to college prices in the USA for state universities - ca US$ 10.000 - US$ 15.000 per year)

- "Average" private high school - called COLEGIO, charges anywhere from 500 to 3000 pesos per month, per student, excluding uniforms and study aids, depending on city (pueblo) and level of school.

You may also check out the following info here on DRQ

You can also see school ratings here, but info is from 2003

Also, I may have "overpriced" the expense for the best schools. It's more along the lines of US$ 5000 per year for the most exclusive private schools.

I have also heard that it could be anywhere from 3500 -4000/yr, but that was closer to the Juan Dolio area

Private school

Thank you for the information on private schools it was helpful.

I have a few more questions, they maybe someone who is familiar with La Romana can answer?

1000 pesos is how much in US. dollars.

I know of a Dominican child whose parents pay 1000 pesos per month to send him to private school somewhere in La Romana; the parents for financial reasons have to send him to public school. I know nothing about the Dominican school system.

I wanted to help out, but I didin't know if I could afford it. Also, what is the best way to send U.S. money to La Romana? How is the mail system there? or would anyone recommend sending directly to the Dominican Private school. How would I track to make sure the money reached the correct hands?

About $32 right now.
You cannot mail it, unless you use International Express Mail, mail a check, and they have the contacts to get it cashed in La Romana.
There are about a jillion ways to send money. You can have a debit card made in that person's name and mail it to them. You can use money grams. Western Union etc etc etc etc....

Washington Mutual is now a way to go.

You can open an online checking account, with $1.
You will get a debit mastercard.
No monthly maintenence fee.
No strings attached.

No ATM fees for waithdrawals in the DR.
Exchange rate comparable to the best exchnage houses, better than bank over-the-counter rate.
1% international transaction currency exchange fee (on any international transaction not processed in USD, including ATM withdrawals - better than 2% most banks charge).

All in all, you will get a slightly better rate than changing cash into pesos in a DR bank (including all the fees).
