Sky's posting that Las Galeras has the best beaches on the peninsula is absolutely correct. The eastern tip of the peninsula hosts some of the DR's prettiest beaches, including one that is world-rated, Playa Rincon. Try Las Terrenas with easy access to several excellent beaches and many restaurants. There are many smaller hotels/resorts you can stay at. Alisei Hotel is one of the finest in town right on the beach and walking distance to the restaurants. It also has a beautiful spa and pool and its own restaurant. All apartment units have complete kitchens too.
