I will be arriving to Sosua via SD and I understand the best method is using Caribe Tours. I am thinking of the following three places to reserve as a hotel and I would like your thoughts and recomendations as to which one is the best: Rockys Bar, Casa Serena or El Colibri. I am open for other suggestions. If necessary, please respond to: florie2007@aol.com. Thank you in advance for your feedback!!!

As Rocky himself says Rocky's is very basic. I would stay there again if I were travelling single or with someone who didn't want a pool in the backyard.

If your needs are more than basic, consider Casa Valeria or The New Garden -- both are reasonably priced, with pool, and (bonus) only a couple of minutes walk from Rocky's for great meals, cheap internet, information . . .

I agree that New Garden is a very good hotel and quite reasonably priced.
New Garden Hotel - Sosua
The reason I didn't suggest it to Florie, is that I thought she might be bothered by so many single guys with their local chicas.
If that's not a concern, then I agree wholeheartedly.
Good hotel.

Thank you Rocky, Me_Again, and Campesina. I am so grateful that you took the time to respond to my post. I have sent an e-mail to all three to find out availability and cost. All three look great! Blessings to you!!! I can't wait to start the vacation now.

FYI: For others reading here. New Garden is not accepting new reservations until the 22nd. They are full.
I made a reservation from one of the recomendations and now I have a beautiful place to stay in Sosua.
Question: I have been trying to connect with a hotel (same price range or less as Sosua) in SD. No luck so far. Any thoughts??? A link is very helpful.

It might be a bit tough to find the same quality of hotel in Santo Domingo, as in Sosua, for the same amount of money.
Perhaps you could bump up the budget a bit for the day or two you spend in Santo Domingo.

Rocky: Thank you for all of your help. I am stopping by with some Anchor Steam from my town, SF/CA for you. I am open for suggestions. I received several recommendation on Hotel Maison, but there is no answer from them. Thoughts??

Very kind of you, Florie.
Thanks.
I'm sorry to say that I know nothing about Santo Domingo hotels, except that they are a bit pricey.

There have been a few threads about reasonable hotels in SD. Try searching and you should find about a dozen decent hotels mentioned under $60 a night or so...some half that. I have stayed at La Residencia on Calle Danae. Its in a really nice area called Gazcue. The owners are friendly and speak English pretty well. It's around $30 a night, small but clean rooms with a/c cable, fridge...walking distance to the conde, colonial zone, the malecon, the casinos, etc. For a few dollars more (I believe around $50 with breakfast), also in Gazcue, is Hostal (Hotel) Riazor, on Independencia, directly behind the Jaragua Hotel and Casino. A little more upscale and still pretty reasonable. The roof top pool may even be open...

Also, you may want to look into taking Metro Bus vs. Caribe tours, it's a few pesos more, but its a shorter trip (less stops), buses are a little nicer, and the stop in Sosua is closer to town - about a block and a half away from Rocky's ;)
