Just wondering if anyone has spent New Year's Eve in the DR before? We will be staying at the Grand Palladium (3rd time) and absolutely love this resort, however have always been in Jan/Feb.

Were you on resort or elsewhere? If so which one?
Do resorts generally just pass the evening like any other or do they tend to have special "gala" shows?

While I am not sure about any particular shows, there are fireworks displays put on by the various hotels as well as the usual drinking/merrymaking/music/dancing that accompanies the evening.

Have stayed on and off resorts but generally in my experience, they do put on a "special" show/gala event but usually things are done at midnight.

If you are looking for fun and action, you definately need to leave the resort but be sure you are accompanied by locals before you venture out.
