Where do the college kids hang out?

I don't know much Spanish but I will be spending two days in DR, so it would be fun to make a friend, my age, who is bilingual.

When I'm in SD it will be New Year's Eve, so I the universities won't be open. Can anyone recommend good out-of-school college hangouts?
