do tourists look for typically Dominican made products? Or are they happy with cheap touristy junk made in Asian countries? What do you think they want to take home with them

I was hoping to get responses from future tourists.......what do they want or expect to take home with them.......
How the future tourist can know? That is way illogical...
Natura, when you go to Togo, what will you expect/want to bring home with you as souvenirs?
They need to go places before knowing what they will want. If you said you expected responses from people that visited and brought stuff back home... understood... but not from future tourists. I repeat: "How the future tourist can know?" Got the point?

The colourful parrots you buy on the raod between PP and Sosua, the candles made by the women of Santiago, Amparo's pottery, Dominos, Barcello rum, shells from the ocean ( buy from the man on the Malecon), amber jewelry, larimar jewelry, a Dominican wooden carved duck ( would like to find more), a 1/12 scale Dominican House (want more of these too), basically I buy items made in the Dominican Republic by the people of the country - that is what I bring home. Lima dolls aren't made any more - but I have them too. I like to go to the artists home to make my purchases - better deals and nicer items.
my curiousity came from seeing how frustrated tourists were, when they shopped. They seem to expect cheaper goods, clothes etc. Perhaps because they think of this as the third world.......I thought it was a logical question. Most people have a concept of where they are traveling to. I am happy that there are people out there that buy.....Dominican......not the imported junk that we see everywhere.

Get Dominican art so your friends and family have a keepsake of your trip...There is great Haitian and Dominican art in DR.

I would prefer to buy things locally made. My sister accidentally bought me dominoes made in China. I was so disappointed as was she. She didn't realise it until it was too late.
I brought back coffee. People enjoyed that.
I don't want t-shirts, coffee mugs, ash trays or stuff that you can find in the Conde.
I was there right before Christmas last year. There was a crafts fair by the church in SD. That was really nice.

I just got a PM asking me about the candles that I buy in Santiago. I just posted 7 photos on my blog about the items that the school sells. The items are unique and hand made by Dominican women.
