And you don't have to buy your ticket in advance.I plan to travel from Sosua to SD in October. The bus seems the best way to travel and to look at the country side. What is the best bus carrier from Sosua to SD? Caribe or Metro?

Correct, but people should also be aware that Caribe Tours will only sell a ticket on the day you are traveling, not before.

My next question has to do with Metro and Caribe's terminals in SD. Does it make any difference ( distance , price, finding a cab..) for getting a taxi from either Caribe or Metro's bus terminal to the hotel in the old colonial area of SD?

No difference between the two. Walk out the terminal and cabs will be waiting. Expect to pay 100-150$RD to Hotel Palacio.
