I would monitor Edenh very closely, as if they open in March you will be one of the first guests if they open all facilities on deadline. That would be either the upside or downside of that hotel that is located smack in Bavaro area, near El Cortecito. Lots of restaurants, shops in the area. Bavaro is in the middle of the Punta Cana area.
Gran Oasis Punta Cana is in Cabeza de Toro, which is not far from the Punta Cana shopping village and the Melia Palma Real Shopping Village (a free shuttle bus should be available to this mall from both hotels). And, if you are coming with kids, what they most will enjoy is the hotel and the beach. All inclusives work great for families, because the kids are free to enjoy the beach and large pools.
There is plenty to do and many excursions will be offered to you. You should take the family to do the 12 water holes of the Punta Cana Ecological Foundation, near the airport. Book the teens for horsebacking, and then book the trails to cool off. The teens will also enjoy the James Bond splash speed boats, and the quad excursions to Macao. Bavaro Runners has a new Zip Lines excursion, too.
