I need a recommendation for some guest friendly budget hotel in Santo Domingo, walking distance from or in the "zona colonial" ? Budget for me is up to 30 US $ . It seems that there are plenty of small budget hotels in gascue district, but I dont know if they are guest friendly , most have no email/site so not so easy to contact, the address given does not enable me to say if it is walking distance from the "zona colonial" or not... So any advice would be much appreciated.

$30USD in or near Zona Colonial is going to be a tough find. There are a few hotels in this price range but they are not within walking distance of ZC, unless you really like to walk. Hotel Riazor and Hotel Danae the price is fairly close to what you are looking to spend but you will need to catch a publico to Parque Independencia.
Most of the hotels in or very close to ZC are going to be $50USD and up, mostly in the "up" bracket.
There are hotels for 20-35 USD very close to the Colonial Zone. They are small, don't have websites. Not sure about guests - probably allowed. I stayed in two - first $35 per night and then switched to $20. I asked taxi driver at the airport to take me - they know all of them. Maybe prices changed at this point - it was last winter.

It amazes me how SOME people want A/C's, Internet and ALLLL perks that comes with a good hotel BUT do not want to pay more than 20-30 dollars!!.
I don't have much but the day that I stay in a 20-30 dollars hotel while on vacation, is the day that I will stay home!.
What's next.......Can I buy a house in the DR, in Arroyo Hondo, for 2 dollars?.

Hotel Meson Gautreaux, it's rigth next the Malecon (sea walk strip) and about a 5 minutes walk to zona colonial it's about $25 - $35 USD at night and it's very guess friendly, very clean, the staff is friendly, and it's very, very safe their number is (809) 687-4856, I don't have their website, but I know they have one. if you need any more info on Santo Domingo just send me a pm. Currently my favorite hotel is Jaguar Apart Studios. $45USD and up

Probably the best bang for the buck if you want to be in the middle of Zona Colonial and need a guest friendly hotel. With taxes it is just a little over $60USD.

Thanks for the effort. I have never stayed there but a lot of people seem to like the hotel. I guess it doesn't matter to hotels that they lose business because of not having a website. Than again some have websites but don't respond to email. You go figure............
P.S. I know if you couldn't find it, it doesn't exist.

Maison Gautreaux is a very nice hotel for about 30-35 dollars per night the correct number is 809-412-7837 cell number is 809-430-4001 and their website is Gautreaux Family Website
The hotel is located next to the intercontinental hotel right off the malecon and is a 5 minute walk to the colonial zone. The hotel has wireless internet in the lobby and has a jacuzzi on terrace on 3rd floor. Very nice hotel for the price.
