I'm at my work Christmas do tonight and they've asid the best time will be the early hours of the morning to see anything here in UK - I may well still be awake at that time ;)

There has been a large sphere in the sky for the past week, it looks like it has tails but it is much too large and bright to be a star or satellite, it only appears at around 5am for a while for the past week or so, what is it? Is is this shower you refer to? is it connected to Phaethon. Whatever it is it is large and very beautiful, I have never seen anything like it in the sky before

Last night was full of shooting stars over Port au Prince.
Spectacular - reminded me of the Leonids - and lasted all night.
