Excellent. Prints off nicely. I have friends heading for Punta Cana for a wedding and this map will be very useful. Thanks.

Distances Between Resorts

Hello,

Thank you for providing the map. I'm planning my first trip to Punta Cana and have a couple of questions regarding the area.

The hotel I am looking at booking is Hotel Carabela for the price and I think also for the location. While there have been some not too flattering reports I've previously stayed at 3 stars (ie. Paradise Beach Resort) and have found them to be sufficient. I thorougly enjoyed being right in the middle of the action in Sosua when I stayed at the Casa Marina Reef last January and would assume that I'll enjoy this resort's close vicinity to El Cortecito Village. I haven't been able to find much information on this village and would appreciate some more details. How is the nightlife? Shopping? Atmosphere?

As well, since I haven't been to Punta Cana previously, I am a bit unsure of how far resorts are from one another. Since I am travelling solo I would want to be near-ish to the nightlife. How far is Hotel Carabela from Mangu Disco, Areito disco?

Your assistance is much appreciated!

Cheers,
Dawn

Mangu is about a 15-20 minute walk from the Carabela. Arieto is to far to walk 15 minutes by cab. Hot spot Bavaro is closer for a night club but is still 10 minutes by cab.
Beach at Carabela has been severely eroded, I was by it in October and was not very nice, I was not impressed with the hotel grounds either.
You might be better off at one of the Princess Resorts or Occidental Grand, much closer walking to nightlife.
If you do walk be very careful and cautious.

WUD,
it all depends on what you expect from your resort and what you wanna pay for it.
for my appartment's renovation(dominican styled delayed, lol) i spent with my better half last year may/june 6 1/2 weeks at the Carbela Beach Resort & Casino, and we habd a great time, very good food, mostly we did not even enter the a la cartes, even with tha fact that we did not need to reserve ahead, the beach with it's pure white sand been absolutely enough to be a great white caribbean sandy beach without rocks/stones in the water nearby, great staff, it is small and family styled, so after 2 days the waitresses, bartenders, maids aso know you by name.
it always depends what you need/await from your AI resort and wanna pay for it.
i have everyyear during white marlin season dozens of customers there, they book their lodging and sportfishing packages with me to stay at the carabela for it's very reasonable rates, 1 min walking access to El Cortecito, 5 min cabbie ride to the Plaza Bavaro, discos, shopping malls aso, because they only need clean nice rooms to sleep, good food and that for the best rates.
happy travel
Mike

Hi Mike,

Thanks for your take on things. The combination of Wuds response and reading some reviews regarding the beach situation kind of steered me away from it. However, I may be changing my mind again.

Basically, I'm looking to go somewhere new, different. I've travelled to the north coast 4 times now and though I know that's not many compared to some of the regulars just feel it's time to have some new experiences.

I'm not a huge beach person but one that is useable would be nice. Most important is price. Since this is a sort of un-budgeted trip low cost is muy importante. I prefer staying at smaller resorts ie. preferred Paradise Beach Resort over Casa Marina. Although I'd love to stay at the Princess (my bro just returned from there) or the Occidental Grand they are substantially more money (and I'm sure for good reason)

I think it's pretty much going to come down to what seems like the best deal closer to the time of departure. I'm also considering heading back to Cuba or venturing out in St. Maarten (they have a fairly reasonably priced 3* up for grabs) but would prefer the DR.

I have a whole spreadsheet going trying to figure out the way the travel companies price and lower their prices.. lol

Thanks again for the advice!
