What is the current rate for riding the guagua and publico? We will be staying at the Riu Mambo near Puerto Plata and will want to get to Sosua and Cabarete. Will we need to transfer at Central Park in Puerto Plata, or do they go straight through to Sosua then Cabarete?

I can't help you with the fare from Riu to Puerto Plata, but the price from Puerto Plata to Cabarete is now 60 pesos. Cabarete to Sosua is 20 Pesos.
If you take a guagua from POP it will take you straight through to Cabarete, however, if you get on a caro publico, it will only take you as far as Sosua and then you have to change to another caro publico and pay the fare to Cabarete.
Hope that helps somewhat.

Actually some publicos go on to Cabarete and others all the way to Rio San Juan, just look at the little sign on the top of the car.
