It is time to head for Chinatown! On Duarte Ave is Dragon House (2nd floor) and Restaurant Popular and Asadero Chino (not sure of the Chino part of the name). You reach the Asadero on Benito Gonzalez street. Dragon House is fancy by Chinatown standards and serves both Chinese and Japanese food. Was at the Asadero on Sunday, and while it looks like a dump, the food is real good and prices can't be beat. We went with a gastroenterologist, former president of the Society of Gastroenterology, who checked out the kitchen and certified it was clean and full of Chinese chefs. The roasted duck was excellent. We were also with a lung specialist who said he had eaten lots of duck in London where he did his specialty, and said it was London style. I just came back from visiting Chinatown in San Francisco, California and can comment that this is a mini San Francisco Chinatown, complete with the small hills leading down from Duarte and going up from Benito Gonzalez. It is worth a trip out there or three or four. Also fun to visit the many supermarkets with Chinese items on Benito Gonzalez. Make it a Sunday outing with your extended family. But go early, as the places fill quickly.

Just visted Asadero for lunch this past Sunday on this recomendation. It was a nice little place (and popular). Ordered the fried wontons and boneless fried chicken with fried rice- not very ethnic, but I could tell their other dishes would be good. For example, my fried wontons were cooked with very clean oil, were light and not greasy at all.

It seemed like every table ordered what looked like mini spare ribs cut into little one inch pieces, so I'm sure those are yummy.

My spanish is so-so and I found the menu hard to translate. Next time I'll go with a Dominican friend.
