Hi Susan,
I saw your pictures on the link on DR1 Congratulations on your place in Las Terrenas. It looks lovely. Did you feel welcomed as Americans? From the DR1 boards and other things we've heard is that the area is very French and they'd prefer to keep it that way.

I received the above as a PM and thought I'd answer on the forum-

YES, we were totally welcomed as Americans! From our new Italian friend, Antonio, the owner of Hotel Kari Beach, to everyone who patiently helped us with menus, directions, etc....we never felt less than welcomed in Las Terrenas-

The French people we met were more than friendly--especially when I tried using my high school French on them! We first met a French family on the TakeOff flight from SDQ to El Portillo who are building a house outside of LT--- They were very happy to learn we were looking for a house and I'm sure we'll see each other again when we get back--

We also talked to another group of French women at the table next to ours when we ate at La Terrasse-- They, too, could not have been more welcoming and friendly---

And when it comes to the local bakery, I especially say, "Viva la France!"
