Lets say two Dominicans jump you at night. You manage to kill one. The other runs off into the night. Do you call the cops or just go on about you way?
On a given day, taking off would be the best choice, on another, best to call the cops.
It's impossible to predict.
There's other factors to consider.
If you're a tourist and the guy who got away has no clue who you are, then taking off is not as dangerous an option as someone who lives here and might be known by the guy who got away.
You'd never know if he wanted to get revenge. (Yes, despite them attacking you, they could still want revenge)
There is no perfect answer and anyone who tells you there is, could mislead you into danger.
