I do not know what you, Jim, are really asking. I will put a few thoughts down for your consideration and that others with more experience may help. First of all; please do not take offense. Your skills or person is not in question.

Things that you should consider for your adventure:
1. Knowing how to speak, read and write Dominican Spanish, including slang used in the police, military and judicial areas.
2. Knowing Dominican customs, laws and diplomacy.
3. The connections to meet and work with the established Dominicans already in this business.
4. Getting your papers: Residencia, cedula, work permits?, drivers lic. and corporation status. More?
5. Getting you gun permits and guns is desired. You can not bring in or ship in your own guns. Any permits that you may have for you home Country are no good in the D.R.
6. Working with and training staff will be a challange. Some don't read/write spanish and some are Haitian that have a problem speaking/understanding spanish.

Private body guards are mostly provided by the Gov. for the "higher ups". A private person with one becomes a "target"; big time.

I think that most Dominican companies have "friends" in the security business.

Some upper end gated communities may be interested?
Perhaps you use your past C.O. or connections to see if your embassy might have something for you?
Or, any UK contracted company to the D.R. looking for a consultant?

Lots of luck, Ringo
