How far is it from the beach area of Cabarete (not sure exactly where) to downtown Sousa.

What type of commuting options are available throughout the day outside of cabs or rental cars.
Are there any large buses than run the route?

Hello Broward. May I ask what you mean by "commuting"? Taking the local gua gua, a van that is packed but very inexpensive, could be uncomfortable on a daily basis but is doable. Taxi would get expensive. Motoconcho dangerous.

Others can provide better info on time (20-30 min.?) and prices.

Broward,
It's about 15 minutes if you were to drive or go direct by taxi.
No big buses making the trip right now.

Add about 5 minutes if you go by carro publico or guagua. Pretty convenient and economical. Cost is no more than a couple of dollars each way. You can flag them down anywhere along the road & have them drop you off anywhere along their route.

A public car is usually something similar to a Toyota Camry with maybe max 8 passengers crammed in. They stop for new passengers to be picked up/dropped off anywhere along the route.

A guagua is more like a van, with maybe 15-20 people crammed in. Again stopping to let on/let off passengers along the main road.

It's 10 km or 6.3 miles between the two.
Normally it's a 10 minute drive or less in my own car, and as mentioned above, add on 5 or 10 minutes if taking the public car or guagua. (Approx. $1 US)
There is some road construction going on at this time, which could add on yet another 5 minutes.
