What city in DR has the most concentrated population of mas claro chicas.

Many of the towns and villages in the Cibao valley and in the Jarabacoa, Constanza, and San Jos? de Ocoa valleys have a relatively high proportion of light skin/white women. Some towns in the southern region (ie. San Juan de la Maguana and Ban? to name two towns) have a relatively high presence of light skin/white Dominicans. Also in Santo Domingo. You will find light skin/white women everywhere in the country, but they are much more visible and numerous in those places and least visible in the towns and villages east of Santo Domingo since the eastern region is composed overwhelmingly of blacks, while the rest of the country is overwhelmingly mulatto.

Not necessarily. You'll find light skin/white women in all social classes. They tend to be more visible among the upper classes than in the lower classes, but that is a matter of ratios.

The DR has more or less 1.5 million light skin/white people, yet the upper class is composed of some half a million people. The half million upper class Dominicans includes a large number of non-light skin/white Dominicans.

As you can see, the majority of light skin/white Dominicans belong to the middle class and lower class, but there are more dark Dominicans in the lower classes than in the upper classes. Hence, the ratio of light skin/white Dominicans to dark Dominicans is greater in the upper classes than in the lower classes, but in absolute numbers, most light skin/white Dominicans belong to middle and low class.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the majority of Dominicans living in the US are light skin/white and of the lower class and thats a majority of over 1 million people.

Not necessarily.

Go to Santo Domingo or any of the Cibao towns, buy yourself a Presidente, sit on a bench in a highly visited park/plaza and just people watch. More than a few light skin/white Dominicans will be within sight most of non-upper class background.

BTW, Santigueras pronounce PUCMM "poo-ka-mai-mai"
They pronounce it like that because they are using the acronym for the university.

The letters in bold form the acronym:

Pont?fica Universidad Cat?lica Madre y Maestra

or

P-U-CA-MA-Y-MA

While we're on the subject...are certain schools harder to get into then others. Are there placement tests? Is it harder to be "accepted" at PUCMM then UTESA or UASD, for example...?

Generally speaking yes, it is.
There is a lot of "self-selection" tied to PUCMM, since the kids know that if you do not perform academically, you WILL be asked to leave. The same is not quite so true at UTESA or the UASD.
UTESA is a for-profit enterprise and the UASD is considered the "people's "university"..

However, if you have a good, solid average in high school, you are eligible for Student Loans, and if you have a high average (85 and above) you are your own guarantor on said loans. The PUCMM statutes say that the university is open to all students with "proven academic ability".... Nuf said.

Mar - I second that. My older family members pronounce it ookamai ma (UCMM).

Lucille - I did not know that!!! thanks for that piece of information. Now I know why they call it UCMM lol. I always argued with them saying it was with the P.
