Don't forget that in 2002 there was a cargo 747-100 at STI as well. It can land and take off but not at full weight for take off. I think it has to be half the fuel and then it goes to fill up at another airport with a longer runway.

And wasn't there a TU 124 at STI a few years ago??? That thing is huge!!
I wonder how much longer the runway has to be???? For 777s and 747s and the like??

Yes HB. There was a TU 124 some time ago. And for that thing to take off takes a lot of runway. I bet it was not even filled up to half capacity. The runway at STI is 8595 ft. I believe that in order for a 777 or 747 to take off with FULL load capacity a runway of 10,000 plus feet is needed. If I'm wrong I'm sure the experts on this site will correct me.

Speaking of short runways. Check this video out of an insane take off. Seems like a serious weight & balance issue. Russian plane taking off in melbourne, Australia.

The SP belongs to a U.S. televangelist so I reckon the show is doing well, given the inefficiency of an SP. They only made about 45 of them and most are in the middle east now in hands of royal families, kinda like a Saudi jeepeta.

Off topic...feel free to delete:

AZB - I almost $hit my pants one time this happened to me taking off La Guardia in NYC. The pilot used up the ENTIRE runway and it seemed as if we were going in the water LOL

If the airlines pay such high airport fees, i guess they have the right to use up every inch of the runway. hahahahaha.

Correct. We were adding 1500' to 17/35 @ PIE so charter jumbos could take off full, 8500' to 10,000', when I sold my aviation biz there. The locals were none too pleased.
