I always stay at Ethics Cabanas in Santiago. Very clean and comfortable suites that run about $35.00 American per night. You won't be disappointed.

Deonds on how much you want to spend. I have not been to Ethics myself but I have heard it was nice depanding on how you want to rent nightly or hourly andyou get a provate garage too.
Ethics is also on the outskirts of Santiago.
There are a few hotels in town, the highest on the price end with casino is the Gran Almirante which is located on Estrella Sandalla one of the main streets entering Santiago. Probably about $80US a night max.
The El Matum is located across the street from the monument and the Theater of the Ciabo centrally located and has gone through renovtions within walking distance of restaurants and Calle del Sol. about $60 a night (US)
On the less expensive side there is Hotel Ambar which is also on Estrella Sandalla closer to the outskirts, and Apartahotel Don Diego close to the monument.
You can look up hotels for Santiago on the codetel web page. www.codetel.net.do

Any of the motels are pretty good for '

sleeping or other stuff.

there is the Camp David Ranch-about 2500' up on the mountains overlooking Santiago and the Valley. About 35-40$ a night. Great food available and quiet!

The Matum is not recommended. It is noisy, low class and most of the rooms are poorly kept.

Across the way, on the other side of the Gran Teatro del Cibao there is a little hotel that seems to get a lot of play from tourists. And down on Sol street there is a little place Aloha del Sol, which is comfortable and in the middle of it all.

The Motels are just that-and the best ones are Zeus, Ethics, Olimpus, Posaidon are fairly comfortable and not too expensive. Be sure to tell then that you are staying all night, otherwise thaey come calling every four hours to collect their money....

Camp David Ranch

HB,

can you tell us more about Camp David Ranch?

I have read in a travel book that it is a great place, but they did not give many details.

Is it only a hotel or also restaurant open to people not staying at the hotel? What else do they offer (Ranch=hoses?)? What kind of hotel is it?

Thank you

Ronald
