I am starting a new thread because I had replied 2 times to my original thread, but it never got approved by the mod for whatever reason... So here is what I've been tring to post..
Thanks for your responses!
I have been diagnosed with a tubular dysfunction in my left ear. I also had a timpanograma done at Centro de Otorrinolaringologia y Especialidades here in the Capitol, and in the results (which is like a graph) it's clear that the left ear is way off compared to my right ear. I missed about a month of work and was seeing the specialist about every 3-4 days( also had medical certificates for my employer). Anyways I want to work(I still have one good ear!), and so the Dr. recommended I use a headset that is designed for 1 ear, and he stated this on my last medical certificate. He said if I use the 2 ear headset, it could prolong recovery of my left ear.
So I went back to work after more than a month and gave my supervisor the medical cert. w/ the request for the headset, and also the results of the test I had done. My supervisor said he did not need a copy of the test results because he did not understand them, and also that there are no headsets there like the one that were recomended. he told me to use the regular headset but not put it on my left ear, And that was that.
I feel that they are not taking this seriously, as the Dr. said its more than likely the condition was caused by taking calls on the headset 8 hrs a day. I would have thought that an employer would be a little more concerned about this situation considering that I've been there for 3 years.
So my question is...Is it the employers responsibility or mine in obtaining the headset? ( The 2 ear one I have is not comfortable unless used on both ears). If its the employers responsibility and they don't comply, what options do I have? If it's my responsibility then where would I find such a headset in the Capitol? : )
Sorry if this all sound silly, but I was expecting(foolishly?) for my employer to help an employee with needs that would help them to preform their job. They are treating this as if it's an earache instead of a longterm dysfunction. I just want to know if I have any rights, and what my options are.
Thanks for talking the time to read!
