Hey guys, since I am starting my spanish classes tomorrow (I am Intermediate level at this point), I thought that I would also ask some questions here. Keeping the harder questions for the guy I have to pay!!!
So....
I always mix up the usage of the following 3 words or phrases, saying one when it should be the other. Are there any general rules for when I should say,
LO MISMO
EL MISMO
IGUAL

Let me know.

mismo seems a funny word that needs a seperate lesson
yo mismo
aqui mismo
ahora mismo
dar lo mismo
perhaps we can have a lesson on it....the others phrases I think are all the same and you use what you feel like at the time ..it would be boring if we all said the correct phrases at the correct time wouldnt it- we would all be speaking like robots lol

Not being fluent, I think they translate as:-

LO MISMO ~ THE SAME
EL MISMO ~ THE SAME ONE
IGUAL ~ EQUAL

Obviously, I bow to native speakers .....

You're correct.

Yo Mismo = Myself
Aqui Mismo = Right here
Ahora Mismo = Right now
Dar lo mismo = To be all the same (i.e. Me da lo mismo = It's all the same to me or I don't really care)

Ok I am anything but a teacher.....lack of patience amongst MANY other things ;)

Yo mismo...is more the equivalent of myself
Mi mismo....is more the equivalent of I, myself. As in 'I myself, did it.'

Mi mismo should be used, if following a preposition.

I actually thought it was the opposite, since

yo = I and
mi = my

OK, don't confuse the people.

Yo Mismo(a) = Myself
Mi mismo(a) = My own (i.e. Mi mismo primo = My own cousin)

Not so. "M? Mismo" is correct Spanish: Seahunt

Mi mismo you will know it's a foreigner speaking right all way. Ezequiel

Isn't that what Ezequiel said?

so errrrr yo mismo would usually start a sentence and mi mismo would more likely be in the middle or end- I told you it was a confoosing word and changes with whatever you put with it lol

You can also start a sentence with Mi Mismo Native speakers have no problem using MI MISMO at the beginning of a sentence.

Example:

Mi mismo hermano me delato.
