In light of the serious lack of electricty in the DR, how do people keep Dominicans from stealing gasoline/propane/kerosene from their generators at home?

The easiest and most effective way is to have a small "house"that is properly ventilated that you can lock up if needed. This has the added benefit of reducing the noise pollution for you and the neighbors. Also don't keep a lot of fuel in the tank outside. That way even if fuel is stolen you won't lose that much.

Put a book near the generator...they aren't near one of those.

You are coming across as an ignorant

To start, not all Dominicans are thieves so don?t generalize. Thus, you should be more specific with your question because you are coming across as an ignorant. I think it is rude to say to put a book on it and that will keep them away. I guess it would be the same as to say to put a PC and you'll have Americans watching child-pornography. Come on, no need for that. Get a dog. It'll be the best way to kept thieves away or just fuel your generator when you need to. We are foreigners in this beautiful country, so be considerate.

sorry

HEY!!! I am over here resisting the urge to make wisecracks, biting my tongue and you GO THERE JUST LIKE THAT!!!

WTF???

It is a messed up world when I have to serve as a model of restraint.

Ok ok. Sorry, next time I'll wait a bit and let you get the first joke.....

As per the OP, buy a fake camera and put it near the generator with a sign that says "you are being watched." That might scare people. Pay the watchman or just let it be known you could use force. I mean it's an open ended question. It really all depends on what you want to do and how far you are will to go.

But still I go with the 'book," or better yet a stoplight, we know no one pays attention to those here.

Mr. Lu has class and an appetite to match. Perhaps your skin is too thin? DR is about making and taking life easy.

You right DR is about making and taking life easy, but I think you can also be considerate. It is not that difficult, is it, Mr. chunky skin?

Hmmmm, a fascinating point to ponder your mention of "considerate". Possibly you think Dominican drivers are considerate when they stop and block the road? Dominicans jumping ahead of you in a line is considerate? The blasting of noise they call music at decibels levels not allowed in civilized countries is being considerate?
This is the country of Dominicans so visitors should learn to tolerate it, live with it or leave.
And BTW, I am Dominican.
