If it is locked, you need to go to a phone store, not Claro to get it unlocked. You will need a copy of your passport.

Way too much effort, Bob, buy a cheapass phone down there already unlocked, activated and ready to go for under RD1000!

Listen to Tamborista - Claro has cheap phones. I bought an old phone just to keep inside my shop for only 500 pesos and it came with a 300 pesos card!

I agree with people here. I asked about unlocking these phones and I was told that these are more expensive to unlock (they told me 600.00 pesos in Cotui). You can get an OK phone for about 1000 pesos.

It's up to you, I paid 300 pesos to unlock the phone and it included a sim card with 100 pesos credit on it. The place is calle sol on the same street and side as Pizza Hut. It took about 10 minutes.

The same kind of prepaid phone LPF is talking about? Normally it cost 300 pesos to activate a regular phone (i.e. a sprint phone), but I was told this kind of phone (prepaid) cost 600...
