I have a vacation planned in POP and Sosua and will need internet access. Are there reliable internet cafes in those cities? Do the hotels have wireless service? Should I bring a laptop (I'd prefer not to)?

Also, do the cable stations available include news stations that have stock market tickers?

You will find Internet places in Sosua as well as in Puerto Plata.
You will want to be very cautious though, if you want to use "public" computers in these places to log into any trading accounts. It would be very easy for an operator to "steal" your login information using a hidden "keylogger" software.

Around Sosua and Cabarete too, you will find a lot of bars which offer WiFi. Again, security may be an issue, but to a lesser extent than to uses somebody else's computer.

If you bring along your laptop computer, read around this forum and learn to keep it safe and be discreete about it, so you will not be one to post about here how it got snatched.

Puerto Plata Cable TV does not carry any "finance"-channels... I don't know about Sosua... but I doubt it.
