Does anyone have more pictures of the Santiago to share? I'll be there in February and there aren't a lot of current pics of this city on the web.

Where could I stay for a whole week? I'm looking to mingle with the locals and meet the beautiful chicas, hopefully none putitas.

Aloha Sol

I would recommend Aloha Sol. For a week (7 days) it should run you $350-$375 US. It is a good place to stay as it is within walking distance of El Monumento and several bars, restaurants.

take a cab and tell him to take you to the las colinas mall( so -so), after that, take another to the mall on Ave Duarte, it is Plaza national or international( cant remember which it was ) it has a coffee bar in the middle of the food court and a few decent stores. Then walk the old parts of the city with all the shops and stores. Independencia, Del Sol, Restauracion, San Luis, Sanchez ect. there are little places to stop and get a bite to eat or a drink and mingle....

thats a start, ask the cab driver where the best clubs for dancing are...

good luck

Best place to dance in Santiago? I would say Tipico Monte Bar in Las Colinas on Febrero 27. If you want a place to dance with rent-a-novias then try Passions.

Thanks Bob...that is a cool picture of the city...I can't wait to visit this place...I'm sure I'll drive around the entire city.

Do you know how traffic and parking is in central Santiago? I'll be driving and I'm planning to stay at El Platino Hotel located by Plaza Internacional.

Hotel Platino, located by Plaza Internacional??? Um, you need better directions. The Hotel Platino that I know is on the Estrella Sadhala, near the PUCMM university. It's decent. You can refer to Como Llegar, Hotel Platino
Traffic - well, if you've driven in the D.R. already, Santiago is no worse. Parking in the center city is not bad actually, if you're willing to pay the meter (which most dominicans are not!).
There are plenty of new bars and restaurants - especially around Los Jardines (Ave. Texas and Metropolitano).
Dancing - well, the ranchos are the way to go, I guess. Tipico Monte Bar, Las Vegas, etc. Kind of overcrowded, but well...what kind of 'beautiful' girls are you looking for?

The most extensive collection of photos of Santiago or any Dominican place can be found the following forum:

Santiago, Rep?blica Dominicana

These photos have been placed/taken by Dominicans, so there is no strong emphasis on showing the proverbial "other/exotic/different/uncilivilized" image that is often the case when non-Dominicans take photos of the DR. Hence, these photos reflect the city in a much more realistic tone than many of the photos posted by foreigners.

there is another really great place to stay there , its called Camp David Hotel. It sits atop on the mountain and overlooks the city of Santiago , it takes about twenty mins from the moniment to get there . if you leave the monument by car you go on the road thats the highway towards puerto plata, youll pass the gran almerante Casino on your left as you pass by look for the hace building on the corner about 1/4 mile or so (orange and brick) it says HACE on it . make that right and go past two texaco stations, takes about another ten 15mins when you see the gates on the left for the buses , you should see the signs to make the right , then go about a block and the left , then head all the way up the mountain to the top , they finished the new road and the views are great , the rooms are really nice to , large, and great balcony to sit out on ,also has a great restaurant and bar, no chicas , you have to go and bring them . the guy Jose is great , and resonable too , like 40. night? 35 , best place for me when Im there

Thanks for the info, but I plan to stay in the city. I'm not too crazy about staying on top of a mountain without much company.

What clubs are good to go on Weds, and Thurs?
