Samana seeks to be part of the ?The Most Beautiful Bays in the World? Club. Galip Gur, vice president and Herve Laigo, treasurer, traveled to Santo Domingo and Samana to assist the Tourism Cluster of Samana that will be applying for the prestigious designation. The application will be considered during the Executive Meeting of the organization, scheduled for their May 2009 Congress in Portugal.
This is a joint effort of the Center for Conservation and Eco-Development for Saman? and its Environs (CEBSE), the Tourism Cluster of Samana (CTS) and the Foundation for the Development of Samana (FDS), with the support of Paraiso Cano Hondo hotel, the Centro Cuesta Nacional, Bahia Principe Hotels, Victoria Marine, Motomarina and the Association of Hotels of Santo Domingo.
Bays that have already been accepted into the organization include:
The acceptance of Samana Bay into the club requires the organization of activities and projects related to the preservation of the bay, in the style of the Blue Flag denomination.
The members of the Most Beautiful Bays of the World Club traveled to Samana on 14 March to see first hand why it would be worthy of the prestigious designation.
Twenty-four bays around the world have already received the designation. Samana would be the ninth to be accepted in the Americas. Others are San Francisco Bay in California, USA; Peninsula Valdez in Argentina, Banderas Bay in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; Praia do Rosa Bay in Brazil; Strait of Magallan in Chile; and Saintes Bay in Guadeloupe.
