Blah blah blah.... with the exception of jrhartley, don't people realise the amount of cynical manipulation that's involved here? The public loves the 'ugly duckling' stories as in the case of Paul Potts - turned out he was an experienced singer on the amateur opera circuit who was not just an untrained cellphone salesman who had only ever sung in the shower as they wanted people to believe.

Susan Boyle wasn't made over to look less frumpy for a very good reason - and in any case, plenty of good singers are no great lookers, so what's the huge deal? Take her idol, Elaine Paige, who looks like a Pekingese. :tired:
