Does anyone know if this procedure is legal in DR in general and more specifically for girls below age 18?
Are the physicians there competent enough to entrust them with the health of your loved one?

I believe abortion is illegal in the Dominican Republic
SHALENA

Abortion is indeed illegal in the DR. As I understand the Congress (?) is currently, was or is to discuss the possibility of exceptions based on medical issues... I hear it's not likely to pass as, for once following logic, some seem to suspect that with corrupt doctors and corrupt everybody, It would be easy to "get" doctor's certificates which would warrant the necessity of abortions.

However and sadly, abortions are being "performed" every day in every city and small town under all ranges of hygienic situations and questionable medical "know how" for so little money, some working girls seem to find it cheaper than using pills and other more health conscious protection every day and nite.

IF it really interests anybody, most hookers and other semi pro chicas hanging around nite clubs day and nite, will be able to direct you to some "doctor".

Good luck (you or she will need it). :(

JD said it best and then there is the argument as to why you would want an abortion if you are not the female.

Not being financially responsible comes to mind especially if you can provide 25% of a gringos income to the Family for however many years it is.

Either that or the gringuito is being taken on a ride in the effort to get him at least for some "abortion money" for a fake pregnancy.

Everything goes here.

From what I have come to understand from recent discussions about this very subject, YES. It's not easy and she will need to be diligent and find help from a lawyer who can do it and will do it instead of screwing her out of her money (milking her), but she can to the point where you would be visited by your local law enforcement at the address she may have of you; work, home... and told to fess up.

You may want to research the LEGAL Forum, as there have been discussions about this fairly recently.

Better yet consider adoption. Not only will you be saving the life of an innocent child you will be bringing joy to another family who desperately want a child.

Unfortunately not enough people want to adopt children as orphanages are full of unwanted children in the DR.

Unfortunately it is NOT so easy to adopt even children in distress (orphanage) in this country either.

Trying to link back to the original subject, people should, not only for their heath and financial safety as well as the health, financial safety of their bed partners and whom ever may result as a new born out of foolishness, use common protection methods.
Makin' whoopie... fine, but producing fatherless kids "by accident" a gogo, should not be taken lightly.

You guys apparently aren't familar with the practice of de facto adoptions here in the DR, it is very widespread and common. As far as the orphanages being filled with orphans, I think if you asked these individuals when they become adults if they would have prefered to have their life terminated before birth or the chance to live I'm sure you know what their answer would be. Bottom line is few people choose death over life. All the more tragic it is that so many poor innocent souls have this choice taken from them with absolutely no say in the matter.

Also think about all of the couples that prefer to adopt babies. Orphanages in all countries are full of older children while there are people on waiting lists just to get a newborn baby.
