You could probably fly Miami-Puerto Plata or fly into Santiago and take a taxi from there (about 1 hour).

There is regular service from Miami to Puerto Plata (airline code POP) on American Airlines. Alternatively, and more expensively, you could fly to Atlanta and take Delta to Puerto Plata. The third option has already been mentioned by Sangria - fly Miami to Santiago (STI) and take a taxi or bus to Puerto Plata/Sos?a.
