Hello,
My son is doing a research project on the Dominican Republic, does anybody know the name of their National Anthem? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also if anybody knows where I could find the words.

Thanks and have a great day,
Jill

HIMNO NACIONAL DE LA REPUBLICA DOMINICANA

Quisqueyanos valientes alcemos
Nuestro canto con viva emocion
Y del mundo a la faz ostentemos
Nuestro invicto glorioso pendon

Compatriotas! Mostremos erguida
Nuestra frente orgullosa de hoy mas,
Que Quisqueya sera destruida
Pero sierva de nuevo, jamas!

Que es santuario de amor cada pecho
Do la Patria se siente vivir;
Y es su escudo invencible el derecho
Y es su lema: Ser libre o morir.

Libertad! que aun se yergue serena
La victoria en su carro triunfal;

Libertad! Libertad! Libertad!

Words by: Emilio Prud'homme

Hope this helps,
Natasha

Some forty years ago, as we were being prepared to come to the Dominican Republic as volunteers of the Peace Corps, the great Dutch sociologist, Harry Hoetink, asked us one day in class: "Have you all ever heard the Dominican National Anthem?"

We said no, and he turned to an old upright piano, like the ones in in the old Western movies, and proceeded to play it!

It is, without a doubt, one of the most logical, musical and easiest to sing anthems that the world has ever heard. The French anthem is more famous, perhaps because of the Revolution, but the Dominican anthem is more fun to sing. You never get the goofs that show up at ball parks in the US-doing everything from jazz to rap interpretations of the Anthem-basically, because it is impossible to sing!

Try to get the music! I am sure that you, too, will enjoy this music.

Hi Jill,
Your last message stated that you found the music for the Dominican Republic National Anthem on the internet. Would you please let me know where? I would love to hear it again. Both my parents were from there and of course I have many fond memories of them singing it. I can find the words but not the music. I remember it was very beautiful.
Thanks in advance,
Brenda
